* Mikawachi ware: Hirado Matsuyama kiln*
Hirado Matsuyama Kiln is a Mikawachi-yaki pottery that learns from tradition and opens up the future. The standard designs are Karako-e, Shozui pattern, Arabesque pattern, etc., and the mainstream of the works is dyed. It is a painting technique that uses gosu, which produces an indigo color, and requires detailed and skilled drawing techniques in order to express the human expression and the freshness of plants and trees with a single color.
The tableware is made by delicately drawing lines with a thin brush tip and using a technique called dami to dye the white porcelain. This large vase was created by a skilled potter’s wheel craftsman, who spent over a year carving patterns on it, and then dyeing it. The climbing kiln that was once used was revived and reopened, and while we continue to inherit the traditions and techniques of the official kiln era, such as the white porcelain cups that were fired, new traditions are steadily being cultivated through constant new experiments.

Theme: Translation and Silence / Sea and Me / Nagasaki Hirado The seas of Nagasaki and Hirado envelop the local people and have provided them with sustenance. While it was once the gateway to the world where Christianity and Western culture entered, the beach is also a place of tragedy for hidden Christians who fell victim to the times. Foreign cultures with different languages have been translated into Japanese language and situations, and have been absorbed into Japanese culture.

Hirado has a landscape where Buddhism and Christianity coexist, and a culture of sugar and sweets that spread from Hirado to the rest of the country as Western sweets unique to Japan. “I LOVE
There is an anecdote that Natsume Soseki translated “YOU” as “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?” and Futabatei Shimei as “I don’t care if I die.” However, they translated it into their own words and expressions, replaced it, and passed it on. I feel that Hirado is the origin of culture, language, history, prayer, and love that have continued.

Kikka
When you face Hirado’s window, you can see the ocean. The ocean has remained unchanged for hundreds or thousands of years, but its appearance changes from time to time depending on the light of the sun and moon. The sea accepts us without saying a word. Hirado is like a beach, a place where different cultures mix and mingle.

Kikka
