◆Summary The Department of General Technology, one of the
organizations that constitutes the Technology Management and Supervisory Headquarters of Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasutomo Nasu), announced on September 2, 2024, that the Tsushima Campus environment The second technical researcher (TR) appointment ceremony was held in the conference room of the science and engineering building.
TR is a unique initiative of Okayama University that employs graduate students as technical assistants to assist with technical work and educational support work in the General Technology Department. In addition to strengthening our university’s technological base, we aim to hone students’ research and leadership abilities, while improving their ability to apply their own technology to work, enabling them to become the next generation of technical staff and bring about social change. The aim is to strengthen the training of “knowledge workers” who can create new value from knowledge.
At the appointment ceremony, appointments were issued to the four TRs by Yoshihiko Tamura, deputy technical director and technical supervisor of the Technology Management Headquarters, and general manager of the General Engineering Department. Deputy Technical Director/Technical Director/General Manager Tamura said, “As the second generation of Okayama University’s unique system of “Technical Researcher,” which started this year, you will take on new
roles.Through this initiative, you will be able to acquire practical skills. You are expected to contribute as a knowledge worker in order to acquire the necessary skills and strengthen the technical infrastructure of the Department of General Technology and Okayama University as a whole.I hope you will work actively as a member of the organization.”
From now on, the four TRs will work together with the first batch of students to manage the balance between their own lectures, practical training, and research, while using the Sanyo-Sphere Field Science Center attached to the Faculty of Agriculture as their main workplace, managing crop cultivation and harvesting. They will be engaged in a variety of tasks such as coordinating cultivation fields and cultivation facilities, and explaining the center’s operations to visitors.
Okayama University is a regional core and distinctive research university: As Okayama University, we are promoting the sophistication of our technical staff, including implementing the technical supervisor system, the first of its kind at a university or research institution in Japan. This project will help our university strengthen its research infrastructure as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Project to Promote the Strengthening of Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities (J-PEAKS)” (implemented by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), which was adopted last year. This is also one of our initiatives. By implementing various systems and initiatives without being bound by conventional customs and ways of thinking, and making improvements as necessary, we will strengthen our research
capabilities and innovation and support the development of knowledge workers.
Please continue to support the regional core and distinctive research universities: Okayama University, the Okayama University Technology Management Headquarters, and the General Technology Department, and look forward to the activities of our technical researchers (TR). 〇 Four people have been appointed as the second generation of technical researchers: Ms. Hinako Abe (1st year master’s course, Graduate School of Environmental Life and Natural Sciences), Kyosuke Kawabe (1st year master’s course, Graduate School of Environmental Life and Natural Sciences), Ryo Takaoka Ms. Sora (1st year master’s program, Graduate School of Environmental, Life and Natural Sciences) Ms. Kumi Torigoe (1st year, master’s program, Graduate School of Environmental, Life and Natural Sciences)

〇 Comments from Norihito Sato, Deputy Director, Vice President, and URA, Director of the General Technology Department, Okayama University (Deputy Director of Technology, Technology Management and
Administration Headquarters)
The Equipment Sharing Promotion Headquarters of the Okayama University Research and Innovation Co-Creation Organization operates the “Student Meister System,” a learning program in which students who are proficient in operating research equipment provide technical support for shared research equipment. People get attached to the equipment and deepen their skills. By belonging to an organization rather than a device, technical researchers learn the know-how of the next generation of technical staff from an early stage, so they hone their practical skills while doing work that is almost equivalent to that of actual technical staff. We will clarify your career path. Okayama University’s systems for technical staff are changing in pursuit of the future. We would like to incorporate the thoughts and efforts of technical researchers into this driving force. Please do what you want to do with excitement and excitement.
