Graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University in 1993. 1997 Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Research Fellow (DC2), 1999 Waseda University Faculty of Science and Engineering Assistant, 2001 RIKEN Brain Science Research Center Research Fellow, 2003 Kyoto University Graduate School of Informatics Lecturer, 2005 Associate Professor there. Since 2012, he has been a professor at the Department of Expression Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University. JST PRESTO Researcher from 2009 to 2015.
Since 2017, he has also served as a designated fellow at the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, a director of the Robotics Society of Japan from 2013 to 2014, and a director of the Artificial Intelligence Society from 2016 to 2018. Director of the Japan Deep Learning Association since 2017. Since 2020, he has been the director of the AI Robot Research Institute at Waseda University’s Next Generation Robotics Research Organization. Born in 1981 in Aichi Prefecture
Graduated from Gifu National College of Technology. As a leader, he won second place at Robocon. He learned about neural networks during his time at a technical college, and has since researched learning, cognition, development, and motor control in humans and robots. Graduated and completed master’s degree after transferring to Toyohashi University of Technology in third year. Ph.D. (Information Science and Engineering) from the University of Tokyo. After working as an assistant professor at Osaka University and doing research in France, he became an associate professor and chief researcher at Waseda University Research Institute. Currently, he has shifted his focus to Tokui-ten and continues to conduct academic research at Waseda University as a visiting associate professor and visiting senior researcher.
Research themes: Robots that handle soft objects such as tying strings and buttoning, motion generation models using attention mechanisms that require less calculations, path planning research using deep generation models, soft robots using balloons, whole-body
musculoskeletal He conducts research on brain and nervous system simulations.
