Bansan Co., Ltd. (Representative Director Eiji Sakai), which plans and produces various ukiyo-e works, will release six ukiyo-e works based on the national anime “GeGeGe no Kitaro” from June, and among them, the ukiyo-e works from the movie “The Birth of Kitaro: GeGeGe no Mystery”. The first edition of 100 copies of “GeGeGe Ukiyo-e Akatsuki no Tomo”, which depicts a world view, sold out in 63 seconds, and the reprints and reprints were also sold out in a few hours, creating a huge response. As the washi paper and custom-made frames were ready, an additional 100 copies were sold on September 13th. Since many people still want to purchase the book, we have decided to sell an additional 100 copies at our online shop on September 20th.
The GeGeGe Ukiyo-e series “Akatsuki no Tomo” cherishes the atmosphere and world view of this epic movie “Kitaro’s Birth: GeGeGe’s Mystery,” and is an ukiyo-e that depicts the friendship between Kitaro’s father and Mizuki, with the characters turning away from each other. The core expresses the subtle sense of distance between two people who are connected.
Kitaro’s father is based on Toyokuni Utagawa’s “Moon” from “Beautiful Men of Edo – Late Highlights”, and since the movie is set in the post-war world of 1955, he is deliberately expressed in sepia-toned colors that have an emotional feel, and he is depicted on the moon. depicts a creepy skeleton that makes you imagine the story. The depiction of bats and clouds, the way the moon is drawn, and the faint reflection of a skull…the drawing techniques unique to ukiyo-e create a work that exudes mysterious frighteningness and impressive color.
