Toshiba Tec begins demonstration experiment of labor-saving and crime prevention solutions for self-checkout at Tokyu Store
Toshiba Tec Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Hironobu Nishikori, hereinafter referred to as “Toshiba Tec”) is a subsidiary of Tokyu Store Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Meguro-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Sachio Ohori,
hereinafter referred to as “Tokyu Store”). We have begun testing a labor-saving and security solution for self-checkout operations at stores such as “Self-Checkout” from September 17, 2024.
In the retail industry, self-checkout systems are increasingly being introduced in response to labor shortages and to improve consumer convenience. On the other hand, in some cases, stores deploy employees to guide shoppers to available self-checkout registers. In addition, expectations are increasing for the systemization of tasks that rely on human hands, such as when consumers register products or report errors in accounting.
In this demonstration experiment, we will introduce two solutions developed by Toshiba Tec: the “vacant register guidance system” and the “self-checkout payment omission detection system,” and verify their ability to save labor at stores and reduce the psychological burden on employees.
TOSHIBA TEC aims to become a “global top solution partner” and will continue to provide a higher value-added shopping experience and transform the distribution industry by solving issues faced by the retail industry and proposing innovative solutions. Masu.
* -Summary of demonstration experiment-*
■“Vacant register information system”
By using cameras to automatically detect vacant cash registers and guide shoppers to them, we will reduce the amount of guidance required by employees and verify improvements in the efficiency of employee work and store operations.

■ “Self-checkout payment omission detection system”
The system detects self-checkouts where the checkout has not been completed and notifies store employees to verify the safe operation of self-checkouts.
