Planned and operated by Yamanashi Sports Engine, the “Ganzaka Tunnel Cycle Tour in
Yamanashi City” was held on Sunday, August 18, 2020.

* ■What is “Ganzaka Tunnel Cycle Tour in Yamanashi City”?*
“Ganzaka Tunnel Cycle Tour in
“Yamanashi City” is a tour where you can cycle through the evacuation tunnel (evacuation passage) of the Ganzaka Tunnel that connects Yamanashi Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture, and cross the prefectural border to Saitama Prefecture. Since the evacuation shaft of the Ganzaka Tunnel is usually prohibited to enter, we enjoyed the phantom course that only those who participated in the tour could run on this day.

*Evacuation shaft is a passageway used for evacuation in the event of an emergency in the main shaft of Ganzaka Tunnel. It runs parallel to the main shaft (main line).

* ■This tour course and its charms*
* 1. A fantastic route that can only be run on this tour *
The biggest attraction of this tour is that you can cycle through the evacuation shaft of the Ganzaka Tunnel, which is normally
inaccessible, and cross the prefectural border to Saitama Prefecture. Additionally, on this tour, we were able to take a special tour of the monitoring room in the Ganzaka Tunnel Management Office (a room where the tunnel is monitored 24 hours a day with monitors to ensure the safety of the tunnel and drivers). .
* 2. Luxurious private guide included *
A certified Yamanashi Sports Engine guide (Yamanashi Cycle Tour Guide) will provide information on the history of the Ganzaka Tunnel. I ran with the participants while controlling the pace and calling out to them.
* 3. You can participate empty-handed! Rental bicycles available * We have rental bicycles for both adults and children so that those who do not own a bicycle or are new to cycling can participate.
* ■Status of the day*
This event was held as an adjunct event to the Fuefuki River Genryu Festival sponsored by Yamanashi City, and 64 people participated on the day.
Departing from the starting point, Michi-no-Eki Mitomi, the first place we visit is the Ganzaka Tunnel management office. The monitoring room in the management office monitors the inside of the tunnel 24 hours a day to ensure the safety of the tunnel and drivers.
After touring the management office, we finally headed inside the evacuation pit. At the entrance to the evacuation pit, two
representatives from each group worked together to open the door. The inside of the tunnel was cool and we were able to enjoy cycling comfortably even in the summer.
At the prefectural border between Yamanashi Prefecture and Saitama Prefecture, participants will be greeted by the Yuru mascot Takeda Hishimaru, leader of the Fuji Country Yamanashi Sightseeing Caravan, as well as Kyoshi from Yamanashi City and Potekuma from Chichibu City. I did.
Also, at the prefectural border, we were able to see the main tunnel of Ganzaka Tunnel up close.
As you cross the prefectural border and proceed further, you will see the exit of the tunnel. After passing through the tunnel, you will be connected to Ganzaka Ohashi Bridge in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Upon arriving at the Ganzaka Ohashi Bridge, the
participants enjoyed taking photos and talking with friends while admiring the spectacular view. After that, we headed back to the roadside station Mitomi from the turning point to the starting point. When you arrive at the finish line, Michi-no-Eki Mitomi, you will receive a voucher to eat udon at the festival venue and a gift of “Nomomon”, a peach juice made using 100% peach juice from Yamanashi Prefecture.
The event ended with great success.
