Ochiairo is a long-established inn founded in 1874. The building was kept as it was, but the plumbing and other facilities were renovated, and it reopened as “Ochiairo” in September 2019. In addition, we were awarded 1 Michelin Key in the hotel category of Japan’s first Michelin Guide, which was announced on July 4, 2020.
Ochiairo was named by Tesshu Yamaoka, a former retainer of the shogunate, because it stood on the banks of two rivers converging.In the Meiji period, it was built by Tayama Hanabukuro and Shimazaki Toson, and in the Taisho period by Yasunari Kawabata and Kajii. Famous writers and artists such as Motojiro, Wakayama Bokusui, and Kitahara Hakushu visited in the early Showa period, and recorded their stays in their works.
