October 7th (Monday) – 31st (Thursday) “Sometaro and Ryori Tools Exhibition” will be held
The solo exhibition “Sometaro and Ryori Tools Exhibition” by Haruchika Yamagishi, also known as “Sometaro” based in Tokyo, will be held from October 7th (Monday) to October 31st (Thursday), 2024 at Kamasa Shoten Knife Department 2. It will be held on the floor.
Mr. Yamagishi uses “stencil dyeing,” a traditional dyeing technique used in folk art works, to create hand towels, noren curtains, store signs, and more. Katazome is a technique that uses paper patterns and glue to dye patterns on cloth or washi paper, and Mr. Yamagishi does everything by hand, from the design to the pattern making and dyeing. His works are characterized by brightly colored works that are uniquely drawn using familiar objects as motifs.
This time, works created by Kamasa Shoten under the theme of “Ryori tools” will be exhibited, allowing you to enjoy tools from a different perspective than usual. Works can be purchased on a made-to-order basis, and each piece will be dyed and delivered to you after the exhibition ends. In addition, two types of hand towels original to Kamasa Shoten are available for purchase at the store (they are not stencil-dyed but chew-dyed).
Please take this opportunity to experience the world of stencil dyeing and Ryori tools.

It all began in 1908 when the first generation, Minosuke Kumazawa, founded Kumazawa Casting Shop in Kappabashi, Asakusa. We later changed our name to Kamasa Shoten, and based on our 115 years of experience, we have continued to operate with the support of many customers who love cooking, providing easy-to-use, tough, and long-lasting cooking utensils. Based on the belief that “good utensils have good
principles, and that’s why good cooks should have good utensils,” we have been aiming to enrich Japan’s food culture through utensils for generations. We opened our first overseas branch in Paris in May 2018. We also operate an online shop for domestic and international customers.
