Otone Pillow Factory (commonly known as Makuland)
In 2020, we established a new factory in conjunction with the expansion of our distribution center.
Most pillow manufacturing in Japan took place under a division of labor system, with “sewing” and “filling” typically separated. Makuland’s strength is that it can perform a series of operations all in one place: loading fabric → cutting → sewing → filling →
inspection/needle reading → packaging/shipping. As a result, we believe that we have been able to significantly reduce the cost of transporting materials and at the same time, have made a small contribution to reducing CO2 emissions associated with transport.

Various measuring instruments are essential when researching and developing pillows.
After checking the shape of the head, it automatically calculates the optimal pillow height.

Next, based on the calculated data, the optimal height of the back of the head and neck is set by slowly inserting and removing the filling using a height measuring device.
In addition, a new pillow will be created using a device that measures the strength required to turn over, a device that confirms body pressure distribution, etc.
Next, we will introduce the production site for mass producing pillows. After the fabric is received, 20 to 25 staff members carefully sew the parts cut using an automatic cutting machine to create the “sides” of the pillow.
By the way, “side” refers to the bag-shaped dough before being filled with stuffing.
Next, it is moved to a filling factory where the main task is to stuff polyester cotton, pipes, etc. into the sewn side, where it is inspected for needles, inspected, and finished with the final package. Extra edition…
