[For elementary school and junior high school students] The 2nd Tokyo Programming Contest for Children to Shine 2024 will be held
[Applications must be submitted until November 10th]
*NPO Programming Education Research Institute is holding a programming contest using Microbit, Scratch, and Pukuratch*
NPO Programming Education Research Institute (Chairman: Koichi Ito) will hold the 2nd Tokyo Programming Contest where Children Shine. 2024” will be held. This contest will be held as part of the “Children Shine Tokyo” subsidy project of the Tokyo Metropolitan Welfare and Health Foundation.
This contest is open to all elementary and junior high school students living or attending school in Tokyo. Children trying programming for the first time can participate while having fun.
It will help you create an opportunity to start learning programming, present the results you have learned in the classroom, and increase your motivation to learn.
In parallel, the 7th Kita Ward Children’s Programming Contest (co-sponsored by the Kita Ward Board of Education) will also be held.

Elementary and junior high school students living or attending school in Tokyo There are no plans to apply to programming contests sponsored by other organizations within the fiscal year. However, you can apply for contests that your elementary and junior high schools encourage you to participate in.
*Programming language and tools do not matter.
*Within the fiscal year is from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. *Only one work per person can be submitted.
– *Judging criteria*
The judging committee will score the following items.
Originality: The work adds something different from others.
Skills: Demonstrates knowledge, applied ability, expressive ability, etc. appropriate for grade and age.
Effort: Works, application forms, photos, videos, etc. are created with effort and time.
Goal: Have an attitude of making things more convenient or better, and being considerate to others.
*In some cases, applications may be judged separately by grade, such as elementary school and junior high school students.

Last year’s situation
Last year, out of many entries, No. 145 “Tira Sushi” developed by Akihiro Takeuchi, a third-year student at Oshiage Elementary School in Sumida City, won the Grand Prize.
Each judge has sent comments evaluating the reproducibility of the conveyor belt sushi and the work that goes into realizing the idea.

It will be held in parallel with the Tokyo Programming Contest where children shine on the same dates.
Elementary and junior high school students attending or living in Kita Ward can apply for both contests at the same time.

* About “NPO Programming Education Research Institute” *
Since 2017, we have been holding programming classes and programming contests for elementary and junior high school students mainly in Kita Ward, Tokyo, with the motto of “Providing programming education opportunities for all children.”
In October 2022, we will provide a fixed amount grant for the “Children Shine Tokyo Support Project” in FY2020.
As a selected organization, we dispatch free instructors to
programming classes held by non-profit organizations such as elementary and junior high schools and children’s cafeterias, and lend out educational materials such as micro bits for free.
We have been holding the “Tokyo Programming Contest for Children to Shine” since 2023.
