Feeltrust Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, President and CEO: Shinichi Noda, hereinafter referred to as “Feel Trust”) uses advanced IT technology and creativity to promote digital transformation in various industries and continues to provide solutions that enrich people’s lives. (FeelTrust) is pleased to announce that it has been selected for the 2020 Sakai City Startup Demonstration Promotion Project promoted by Sakai City. We aim to improve the quality and efficiency of oral care at elderly care facilities by utilizing the AI-equipped oral hygiene management system “Octimyl.”
What is “Sakai City Startup Demonstration Promotion Project”? This is an initiative aimed at creating innovation based on the “Sakai Industrial Strategy – Sakai IMPACT Strategy,” a guideline set by Sakai City to open up a prosperous regional economic future. It started in 2021 and is now in its fourth year. With the keyword “Turn Sakai into a demonstration field for startups,” we support projects in various phases, from the idea stage to products that have already been turned into services.
In this project, we will widely solicit startups from all over the country who wish to conduct demonstrations in the field in Sakai City, and support the realization of an efficient demonstration cycle through field adjustments and cost subsidies. To date, we have supported a variety of projects including next-generation mobility, IC tag accuracy verification, and AI utilization.
What is the oral hygiene management system “Octimyl”?
Octimyl is an AI-based oral hygiene management system developed by Feeltrust. Strengthen the collaboration between nursing care and dentistry and improve the quality of oral care for the elderly. With simple input using a smartphone, information can be shared across multiple professions, improving work efficiency and simplifying insurance claims. Additionally, AI analysis technology supports early detection of oral cancer. We support early detection of oral cancer, which is on the rise, and lead to prompt treatment.
What is the “digital denture” that Feeltrust is working on?
Modern Japan faces the challenge of a super-aging society. Although 64.3% of elderly people requiring nursing care require dental treatment, only 2.4% actually receive dental treatment. A major factor behind why it is difficult for the elderly to receive dental treatment is the lack of collaboration between dental care and nursing care. Although the importance of oral care is recognized in nursing care settings, there are many cases in which there is insufficient collaboration with dental care, and as a result, opportunities for dental treatment are lost. Furthermore, as the population of dental technicians decreases, the time it takes to manufacture and adjust dental prostheses such as dentures is becoming more difficult to obtain. The traditional denture manufacturing process relies heavily on the manual labor of skilled technicians, and it takes one to two months to complete one denture.
Digital denture is a service that dramatically improves this situation. By introducing 3D printers and digital scanning technology to the denture manufacturing process, which was previously done by hand, the 23-step manufacturing process will be reduced by one third, and the manufacturing period will be shortened from one week to two weeks. is also possible. The widespread use of digital dentures will not only significantly reduce the burden on dental technicians, who are decreasing in number, but also make it possible to quickly provide high-quality dentures to more patients.
Comment from Shinichi Noda, President and Representative Director My thoughts on digital dentures go beyond mere technological innovation, and are rooted in a strong sense of mission to open up the future of dental technology. I witnessed my father working as a dental technician and experienced firsthand the harsh working environment in which technicians were dependent on manual labor. Therefore, we had a strong desire to change this current situation through the power of technology. Digital dentures are an innovative solution that utilizes 3D printers to significantly streamline the denture manufacturing process, reducing the burden on dental technicians and providing patients with fast, high-quality dentures. This can be said to be a symbol of what we envision as “technology that is close to people.” In the future, while promoting the spread of digital dentures, we will further strengthen the collaboration between nursing care sites and dental care through the “Octimyl” that we have developed. “Octimyl” is a tool that streamlines information sharing between nursing care facilities and dental clinics and improves oral care by making full use of AI technology. In Japan, where the population is aging, there is an urgent need to create an environment where elderly people who require dental treatment can receive appropriate care. Octimyl provides high-quality oral care through smooth information sharing with nursing care facilities, dentists, and families. We are confident that this will enable us to realize a future in which nursing care and medical care work together to protect the health of the elderly. Through these two innovations, Digital Denture and Octimil, we will further embody our philosophy of “supporting people with technology” and create new standards in the fields of dental technology and nursing care.
