Sena Iwaki, Ryudai Nakamura, and Kodai Yamada appear. We talked about the appeal of the Avatar series and its relationship with the environment.
Mr. Yamada, who is a big fan of director James Cameron, commented, “I’ve seen many of the films he’s worked on, including his
documentaries, so I’m honored to be able to participate in the event.” Iwaki revealed that the three members reviewed past works together beforehand, saying, “Not only did we appreciate the visual beauty, but we also sympathized with the fact that each person has pride and something they want to protect, and on top of that, we also looked at the importance of the environment.” Looking back on the “Avatar” movie series, he said, “I once again felt that it was a wonderful work that conveyed the beauty of nature and nature.” In response, Hasegawa seemed to sympathize with this, saying, “When you watch it as a child, you feel completely different when you watch it as an adult.”
Also, when asked about the second film in the series, Avatar: Way of Water, which was released in 2022, Nakamura said, “It focuses on family love, and it’s similar to how we live as humans.” There were many points that resonated with me,” he said, expressing his surprise at not only the visual experience but also the immersive experience of an emotionally moving drama.
* ■Let’s take a closer look at director James Cameron’s environmental message embedded in the “Avatar” series! *
This was followed by a talk that focused on director James Cameron’s message about the ocean, which was embedded in the “Avatar” series. When asked about his impressions of Pandora, a mysterious planet far from Earth that is the setting for Avatar, Mr. Iwaki answered, “I really felt the energy that Pandora emanates from the visual beauty.”I take pictures of nature on a daily basis. I love the beauty of nature as much as I look at it, so I was drawn to Pandora’s appeal because I felt it was connected to the earth.”
He also revealed his true side by saying, “I really like the sky, and when I’m feeling a little worried in my life, I look at the sky and feel a connection to the earth.”
-A director who loves the sea–Mr. Yamada said:
“Director James Cameron takes an uncompromising approach to depicting the beauty of nature, not just the threat of the sea and water, by using a huge pool and real seawater in his filming.” He spoke passionately about the greatness of the director. When asked about a recent incident in which he felt the beauty of the ocean, he answered, “It was when I took pictures from morning till night at the beach. The appearance of nature changes moment by moment depending on the height of the waves and the sunlight, so I take more photos of the ocean than I do with the members (lol).” When I said that, the members laughed as well.
Based on the message that “Avatar: Way of Water” symbolizes – water connects everything, before birth and after death – Nakamura said, “Water is extremely important to artists, so I go to the production sites for work. I’m very conscious of things like taking leftover water home with me when I’m in a pinch and not leaving the shower running,” he said, showing his artist-like side. In response, Mr. Hasegawa talked about the importance of small actions for
environmental conservation, saying, “Actually, little by little awareness on a daily basis is much more effective than taking big steps.”
At the end of the public recording, a special video of “Avatar: Way of Water” containing a message about the beautiful ocean was shown, and the three guests seemed captivated by its power. We have high expectations for the latest work, “Avatar: Fire and Ash”.

Mr. Iwaki, Mr. Nakamura, and Mr. Yamada also participated as a team, expressing surprise, saying, “I can’t believe there’s so much trash,” and exclaiming to each other, “It was here too!” as they picked up the trash.
* ・After picking up trash, I realized that “every single bit of awareness can lead to big changes.”*
At the closing ceremony, results were announced and an award ceremony was held. The winning team will receive “Avatar” goods as prizes.
Participants from the winning team expressed their joy, saying, “I didn’t think we could win, so I’m very happy!” and that participating in the event was a great experience because “I saw a lot of garbage that I usually didn’t pay attention to.” Now,” he said with a smile. Mr. Iwaki also had warm words to the participants who gathered on the day, saying, “I want you to be aware of this on a daily basis and spread the word to the people around you.”
Ariake was the field this time. Much of the trash picked up included plastic bottles, empty drinking bottles, and cigarette butts. In fact, approximately 80% of marine debris is said to flow from land into the ocean via rivers, so it is important to be active not only in the ocean but also in cities to reduce marine debris.
The event ended on a high note, with 23 guests and participants experiencing turning the message of Avatar into action through “SpoGOMI” in Ariake, a town by the sea.
