  • About Onogawa Onsen

Onogawa Onsen is a hot spring resort located in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, where history and nature are in harmony, and is known as “Yonezawa's inner parlor''. This hot spring area has a legend that originates from Ono Komachi, a poet from the Heian period, and is loved by many people as a “beauty bath'' that is highly effective for beautifying the skin. The spring quality is a sulfur-sodium/calcium-chloride spring, rich in ingredients that are gentle on the skin.

The hot spring town is lined with quaint inns, and the public baths “Amayu'' and “Takiyu'' are popular among locals. There is also a footbath and drinking fountain, so anyone can easily enjoy the hot springs. In the summer, a “Firefly Festival'' is held where fireflies fly around, creating a fantastic sight. In winter, you can enjoy hot springs in a snowy landscape, and one of the attractions is that you can feel the atmosphere of each season.

Furthermore, on the hill above the hot spring town, there is Yakushi-do Hall, where the statue of Yakushi Nyorai, said to have been enshrined by Ono Komachi, is enshrined, as well as other historical sites.

It is also conveniently located, about 30 minutes by bus from Yonezawa Station. Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a special time at Onogawa Onsen to heal your mind and body.

  • Thoughts on renewal

Onogawa Onsen's high-quality hot springs are so good for your skin that they are often referred to as “beauty hot springs.'' Therefore, we want you to enjoy the hot springs as many times as possible during your stay at our inn. We have created a room with a hot spring that flows directly from the source so that you can enjoy the beauty bath as many times as you like while staying in your room. In addition, we have created a space where you can enjoy the nature of Yonezawa so that you can not only relax your skin but also your mind.

The room we renovated this time is the corner room on the 3rd floor, “Azuma.'' As the name suggests, this room offers a panoramic view of the Azuma Mountain Range (Japan's 100 Famous Mountains) and the Onogawa Satoyama landscape. To make it accessible to anyone from Japan and abroad, we have renovated the Japanese-style rooms that used to have tatami floors into bedrooms with wooden floors, and we have made full use of natural wood so that you can feel the warmth of wood, which is typical of Yamagata, which is rich in forests. I am. The semi-open-air bath in the guest room is a deep ceramic bathtub where you can comfortably soak up to your shoulders. If you open the windows, you can bathe in an open space surrounded by the beautiful nature of the four seasons.
In addition, in keeping with the famous Sake Doroko Yamagata, we have renovated a corner of the banquet hall and installed a sake server.

The newly installed sake server maintains the perfect temperature range for sake and fills the bottle with nitrogen gas, so the sake is always fresh! At our hotel, you can taste and compare Yamagata's local sake carefully selected by our sake server.

Yamagata and Yonezawa are home to some of Japan's top-class sake, including Kojima Sohonten Toko, which won the grand prize at an international competition this year. It is attractive that there are many delicious ingredients.
