Japan Cancer Society, Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Press release: September 26, 2024 Walking to support cancer patients and conquer cancer “Relay for Life” event held in Ueno Park in September and Ochanomizu in October ●September 28th (Sat) and 29th (Sun): Ueno Onshi Park Fountain Square (guests are actor Eisuke Shinoi and singer Mayo Shono) ●October 12th (Sat) – 13th (Sun): Ochanomizu Tokyo Medical and Dental University (Tokyo University of Science Yushima Campus) “Relay for Life” (RFL) is a charity event held all over the country to support cancer patients and their families, to confront cancer as a community, and to conquer cancer. Sponsored by the Japan Cancer Society and local executive committees, the donations received will be used to provide free telephone consultation services for cancer patients and their families, provide scholarships to train cancer specialists, The funds will be used to support research aimed at developing new treatments and new drugs.

This activity began in 1985 when an American doctor ran on an athletics track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS). Currently, it is held in approximately 2,460 locations in approximately 34 countries around the world. In Japan, since 2006, the Japan Cancer Society has received a license from ACS and has been holding “Relay for Life Japan” with local executive committees. Each executive committee engages in various charity activities throughout the year, and the relay event is the largest event that gathers patients, families, and supporters once a year.
