Nichiban Co., Ltd. press release (2024.09.27) Nichiban Co., Ltd. Achieved recycling of release paper generated during adhesive tape manufacturing Nichiban and Nippon Paper Industries collaborate to take a new step toward a resource-recycling society Nichiban Co., Ltd. (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Toshiaki Takatsu, hereinafter referred to as “Nichiban”) and Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Toru Nozawa, hereinafter referred to as “Nippon Paper”) are producing adhesive tape products. In September, we began a new initiative to make it possible to recycle the release paper generated during the manufacturing process. Release paper is used in the manufacturing process of adhesive products and to protect the adhesive in the final product, and the base paper may be polyethylene laminate paper, which is difficult to recycle. It was considered a contraindicated item by the Waste Paper Recycling Promotion Center, a public interest incorporated foundation, because it is undesirable for the agent to mix with recycled raw materials*1. As a result, most of the approximately 110,000 tons*2 of release paper produced in Japan each year is either discarded or reused for heat. Therefore, Nichiban thoroughly separates adhesive materials and release paper during the manufacturing process, and has developed a unique collection and transportation scheme in collaboration with Nippon Paper Industries, which has technology that allows polyethylene to be separated and recycled from polyethylene laminated paper. , making it possible to recycle release paper into recycled paper. Through this initiative, release paper is recycled as cardboard base paper, and some of it is reused as cardboard for packaging Nichiban products. By converting waste into resources, we are contributing to a resource recycling society. Nichiban and Nippon Paper Industries will continue to work to reduce environmental impact and use resources effectively to realize a sustainable society. We will continue to work toward this goal. Nichiban Group’s environmental policy is to reduce plastic emissions and improve recycling rates, and since achieving zero emissions in 2012, we have maintained a system that recycles over 99% of waste and are focusing on switching from thermal recycling to material recycling. We are doing so. We will continue our efforts to realize a sustainable recycling-oriented society. The Nippon Paper Group, as a “comprehensive biomass company that opens up the future together with trees,” actively engages in product recycling, and has “promoted the recycling of resources” in the “Nippon Paper Group Environmental Goals 2030.” We will continue to expand new recycling circles with customers who value the unique value of paper, and work toward the realization of a sustainable recycling-oriented society. *1 Prohibited items Class B of the waste paper standard quality standards of the Used Paper Recycling Promotion Center, a public interest incorporated foundation *2 From the Label Circulation Association website.
