In the first year of Empress Jingu’s reign (201 A.D.), on her way back from Sanhan, her ship stopped sailing off the coast of present-day Kobe Port, so when she performed divine divination, Wakahi Onnason appeared and said, “I am from Katsuta Nagakyo Country.” “I want to live in the world,” and so it was enshrined by Kai Umi Isago. It is widely revered as the guardian deity of Kobe, and is believed to bring blessings such as marriage, good health and longevity, prosperous business, family safety, success in love, and prayers for safe childbirth.
