collaborates with Ehime Prefectural Misaki High School in Ikata Town, Ehime Prefecture, where the Sadamisaki Lighthouse is located, as part of a program to develop human resources (light people) involved in the Sadamisaki Lighthouse. We held a monitor operation for the opening of the cafe “Sentan Coffee” around the Sadamisaki Lighthouse, which is currently being prepared, at the town event “Irodori Festival 2024” on Saturday, September 21, 2024. As part of the Nippon Foundation’s “Ocean and Japan Project,” this event will dig up local ocean memories centered on lighthouses, connect regions to regions, different fields to different industries, Japan and the world, and create new ocean experiences. This project was carried out with the support of the “Sea and Lighthouse Project.”

Based on the ideas of the students, the name of the cafe was decided to be “Sentan Coffee”. We have put our thoughts into it, such as “the tip of Cape Sada” and “the cutting edge in the sense of a new challenge.” In addition, the logo features the symbolic Sadamisaki Lighthouse, as well as seafood and citrus fruits from the Sadamisaki Peninsula. Once preparations for opening are complete, such as the creation of Sentan Coffee’s original uniforms and handwritten menu boards, the monitoring business begins! This is an event where many local people gather. First, we will practice repeatedly with Mr. Toda while remembering the coffee brewing method we learned in the previous workshop. The menu offered this time is hot coffee, iced coffee, mandarin orange juice, Shiokaze cookies (salt purified from the seawater of the Sadamisaki Peninsula), and emerald parfait (with the emerald thyme of the Sadamisaki Lighthouse as a motif, made with young emerald peach fruits. 5 types in total. In the last workshop, we only brewed hot coffee, but in the monitor sales, we will also try making iced coffee. The amount of beans to grind and the amount of hot water to pour are different for hot and iced coffee, so learn the amounts and procedures so you don’t make mistakes. Because each cup is carefully hand-brewed, it takes a while to be served, but the aroma of coffee fills the air, creating a cozy atmosphere. Although we were open for about 5 hours that day, we sold 16 cups of hot coffee, 49 cups of iced coffee, 15 cups of mandarin orange juice, 120 bags of Shiokaze cookies, and 50 cups of emerald parfait, which far exceeded our goal! Although it was a huge success in terms of sales, there were some operational issues, such as managing orders and how to spend time waiting for coffee to be served. We will improve our operations in time for the actual operation around the Sadamisaki Lighthouse on November 4th (Monday/holiday), and spread the appeal of “Sentan Coffee” and the possibilities of the lighthouse cafe from the Sadamisaki Lighthouse to the whole country. I’m going. What is Sadamisaki Lighthouse? (Ikata Town, Nishiuwa District, Ehime Prefecture) A lighthouse made of reinforced concrete that stands at the westernmost tip of Shikoku.
