middle-aged women It is now said that one in nine Japanese women will develop breast cancer. The number of deaths has been increasing year by year, and now approximately 15,000 people die each year. The rapid increase in breast cancer over the past 30 years is thought to be due to changes in diet and lifestyle that affect the secretion of estrogen (female hormone). Despite breast cancer being the leading cause of cancer death among women in their prime (30 to 64 years old), many people remain indifferent to the disease. Do you think that breast cancer has nothing to do with me? The incidence of breast cancer increases rapidly between the ages of 30 and 40. The peak age spans a wide range of ages, from late 40s to 60s. There is no such thing as “it’s okay after menopause” or “you won’t get breast cancer after 50.” Also, just because you’re young, you can’t let your guard down. Breast cancer can occur at any age. It’s okay if you don’t have any family members or relatives who have had breast cancer, or have given birth or breast-feeding. That cannot be said. In other words, no one can say that they will not get breast cancer. Unfortunately, there is currently no way to prevent breast cancer. However, the earlier the lump is detected, the less likely it is to die, and if the lump is detected and treated before the lump is 2 cm, more than 90% of people will be cured. It’s not a scary disease. In order to detect breast cancer early, it is important to pay attention to your breasts on a daily basis, perform self-examinations, and undergo medical
examinations.

The smaller the number, the earlier it is. Source: Cancer Registry Center, Cancer Control Research Institute, National Cancer Center “In-Hospital Cancer Registry 2011 10-Year Survival Rate Summary” Breast cancer is highly curable if detected early. Twenty years ago, many women lost their lives without knowing this. At that time, breast cancer awareness campaigns that had been underway since the 1980s were bearing fruit in Europe and the United States, and the number of deaths was clearly on the decline. The event that symbolizes this movement is a run and walk competition with pink ribbons. Let’s start this movement in Japan too. If you knew, you could have saved a life. That’s where I was born “Mini Walk & Run for Breast Care Pink Ribbon Walk.” The first competition was held on March 31, 2002. More than 20 years have passed since then. Despite the rapid increase in the number of breast cancer cases, the number of deaths has not decreased. The Pink Ribbon Movement needs more power. One step to learn about breast cancer, one step to inform, and one more step to support. We thought it was a time to give form to the casual kindness of each individual who is involved in the various situations surrounding breast cancer, including screening, treatment, and life afterward. Breast cancer awareness (pink ribbon) organization established in 2000. We conduct seminars, publications, and other activities with the aim of reducing mortality rates through early detection and early treatment of breast cancer. Became an NPO in 2003 and a certified NPO in 2011. In 2013, we established the Pink Ribbon Advisor System with the aim of creating a “friendly society that understands breast cancer correctly and is supportive of each and every individual.” Approximately 20,000 Pink Ribbon Advisors have been certified so far nationwide, and are working toward the goal of reducing breast cancer deaths in Japan to 10,000 or less by 2030.
