https://youtu.be/l_86LtyMdE4 ■Photography episode ◇Mr. Suzuki was full of motivation even before the actual performance, but an unexpected accident happened! ? Before filming, Suzuki and Kaku were briefed by the director, saying, “We didn’t get the reaction we expected from our presentation on a business trip, so we toasted with beer and decided to start over again.” Mr. Suzuki understood the intention of the performance and said, “It’s a bit of a failure,” but when he got up and said “Okay!”, he ended up hitting his head on the cargo bed of a vehicle with a low ceiling. Mr. Kaku immediately shouted, “It’s out!”, and while holding back the head that Suzuki had hit, he said with a wry smile, “Don’t say it’s out!” The staff, who got a glimpse of Suzuki’s unexpectedly clumsy side, watched with amusement as he had a heart-warming conversation with Kaku, who was having a chat with Suzuki. ◇Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Kaku collaborate to propose an acting plan The director and cast had detailed discussions on set about how to phrase the lines and how to move the body during this shoot. The director explained the relationship and direction of the two actors, and filming progressed while reflecting the opinions of Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Kaku regarding the specific play. Kaku-san says, “In the scene where I call him senpai, should I say it in a way that makes Suzuki-san a little mad?” “In the scene where I look at the sunset, should I lean towards Ryohei-kun as much as I can like a spoiled child?” When I suggested this, Mr. Suzuki said, “If you change your expression from an irritated face to the moment you see the sunset, it will make the difference even more noticeable.” The two experienced people actively came up with ideas and succeeded in capturing a more natural interaction. ◇Both of us forgot our lines due to the beauty of the sunset and the deliciousness of “Ichiban Shibori” A scene where two people drink “Ichiban Shibori” while watching the sunset. Perhaps I was captivated by the beauty of the sunset here, or maybe the beer was just too delicious, but Suzuki-san started acting completely different from the script, saying, “I forgot my line, but it’s delicious!” and I was hooked by it. There was also a moment when Mr. Kaku criticized himself and said, “I forgot too! It’s already a mess (lol).” Also, in a scene where they suddenly make eye contact while drinking, Kaku-san teases, “Looking at each other like this, it feels like a summer of love!” and Suzuki-san immediately asks, “What does it feel like? ” and other ad-libs by the good-friend duo, which drew laughter from the audience every time. ◇Everyone’s eyes were glued to the two’s impromptu play requested by the director! After successfully filming most of the scenes, Suzuki-san and Kaku-san received a request from the director, “Please allow us to film a free performance between the two of you on the theme of “Ichiban” at the end.” Both of them responded with reliable answers, and a very challenging impromptu play began. Mr. Suzuki looked out the window and muttered, “It feels good,” and Mr. Kaku said, “I can see it all the time. Oh, it jumped! There’s a dolphin.” In response, Mr. Suzuki showed off his wealth of knowledge by saying, “That’s a finless porpoise (a small dolphin without a dorsal fin),” to which Mr. Kaku responded, “Swahili? What do you mean by Swahili?” I did. At the end, Mr. Suzuki says, “It’s the best time,” and Mr. Kaku continues, “Only for “Ichiban Shibori” to open the episode. The staff members gave a big round of applause for their wonderful play, which was hard to believe to have been improvised. ■Interview with Ryohei Suzuki and Kento Kaku –Please tell us your impressions of the shoot. [Mr. Suzuki] :It’s been a while since we worked together, but it was a strange feeling because our relationship was completely different from our previous works. Kaku-kun was kind (lol) [Mr. Kaku] :I agree. I was working with him in a role that was a bit spiky. [Mr. Suzuki] : I like the spiky side of them, but I got to see a lot of different sides of them that aren’t spiky, and I think it was a natural filming experience as both of them seemed like normal characters. I didn’t feel like (Mr. Kaku) was my junior. [Mr. Kaku] :Are you saying it’s a bit of a no-no (lol)? [Mr. Suzuki] : No, I guess that’s my problem. Since Kaku-kun is a designer, his costumes are fashionable and give off a bit of an artist feel. So even though he was my junior, I had a strange feeling that he was a little reserved. Although their relationship is a little tense, it was interesting to see them empathize with each other and watch the sunset outside together.
–Please tell us about your ideal boss. [Mr. Suzuki] : Have you ever had a boss? [Mr. Kaku] : There’s no work for us, right? [Mr. Suzuki] : Since it’s a freelance job, I feel like I should be able to do whatever I want. [Mr. Kaku] :I agree. I might not like it if people get angry at me for saying that what I’m trying to do is wrong. [Mr. Suzuki] :They let me do it anyway, and if I fail, they take
responsibility. It’s ideal to have a boss who lets you make mistakes and learn from them, but proactively follows up on the areas where you really shouldn’t make mistakes. [Mr. Kaku] :It’s really nice. However, I’m sure people will say that the reality is not so lenient (lol).
–Please tell us your impressions of each other as actors. [Mr. Suzuki] : He’s a really good actor. There are many choices, but what I like is knowing not to overdo it. I think the best way to squeeze something out is to strip it down and express only the essentials, show originality, and delicately express what’s right here. It’s the classic route, but if you don’t want to go overboard and try to be weird, I’d go for the one that completely shakes things off. It’s a monster. It’s a collection of sense. [Mr. Kaku] : Please stop it already (lol). I get the impression that Ryohei-kun has a strong trunk. I’ve said it many times in interviews and on TV shows, but in the best sense of the word, actors are idiots. Even if I get to the bottom of it, I’m still not satisfied, and there are things that I can’t measure, such as the desire for research, the desire to put it into practice, and the greed to go beyond that. I think the best thing about it is that when you look at it, you’re like, “Wow…”. I think everyone who works with Ryohei-kun feels that way. [Mr. Suzuki] :It’s embarrassing. It’s embarrassing, but we’ve performed together several times and had the opportunity to talk about each other, so we’re used to complimenting each other (lol). –By the way, if the two of you were to work together in the future, what position or role would you like to play? [Mr. Suzuki] : I like the enemy. I think the
relationship between the righteous protagonist and the evil one who opposes him is interesting. [Mr. Kaku] :It may be a pipe dream, but in my ideal world, it would be really fun to work together on set overseas. ――Please take this opportunity to tell us if there is anything you would like to ask each other. [Mr. Suzuki] :Actually, while I was waiting, I asked her, “What items have you been looking for lately, or what items are you into?” Then I found out that I was looking for something amazing, a specific pair of glasses from a specific era. I’ve never met anyone who would say that. [Mr. Kaku] : It’s the same as cars and watches. This is an antique version of glasses. For example, there are no catalogs or materials left from that time, but we do have pinpoint information such as the glasses this person wore at that time. [Mr. Suzuki] : Looks like it’s hard to find. [Mr. Kaku] : It’s hard to find. What I would like to hear about is Ryohei-kun’s private life. I’ve been trying to talk about a lot of things, but I still can’t see anything, so I’d like Ryohei-kun to keep quiet and leave me behind for a day. [Mr. Suzuki] : It’s plain. (lol) [Mr. Kaku] : Even if you think Ryohei-kun is plain, I think he’s probably really funny. I’d like to see their lifestyle, where they start their mornings, what they eat at noon, what hobbies they spend their time at night, whether they study or go to bed. My guess is that he might be screaming alone (lol). It seems like he’s thinking about all the things that happened that day and thinking, “Ah!” on his pillow. [Mr. Suzuki] : I’ve had an “ahh!” moment with a pillow (lol). [Mr. Kaku] : There are many possibilities, so it’s worth imagining.
–In honor of “New Ichiban Shibori,” now, this moment, If you were to be reborn as the “New Ryohei Suzuki” or “New Kento Kaku”, what would you like to do? [Mr. Suzuki] :At the very least, I would like to fly. [Mr. Kaku] : Is that so? Is that what you’re talking about? [Mr. Suzuki] : You’ll be reborn, right? You can get it, right? When you fly, when you raise your arms, they come to your shoulders, so it’s easier to lower them. I just want to fly. [Mr. Kaku] :I want to live for a long time. [Mr. Suzuki] : It’s not a matter of being reborn, it’s that you’re not dead yet (lol). [Mr. Kaku] :The standard life expectancy of 70, 80, and 90 years is rather short. There’s a certain fragility to it, but I feel like the initial setting is too lenient, and I think that if we can live long enough to be around 170 to 180 years old, we’ll grow even further as humans. [Mr. Suzuki] :Wouldn’t it be nice to live until 178 years old and still be able to fly? [Mr. Kaku] : That’s great! However, when I was around 24 years old, I still couldn’t fly. [Mr. Suzuki] : Ah, that’s right (lol). [Mr. Kaku] : Once you mature and have a proper sense of responsibility, you will be able to fly. It’s like a license, isn’t it? ■New TV-CM “Sunset” version (30 seconds) Storyboard
