BIOTECHWORKS-H2 Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo,
Representative Director: Akihide Nishikawa, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”), a global startup company based in Tokyo and Silicon Valley that aims to revolutionize waste management and energy, will start operations in April next year. We have decided to exhibit at the upcoming Osaka/Kansai Expo. From Tuesday, July 1, 2025 to July 7, 2025, our company will be holding an event at the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion, where Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City are working together to provide experiential exhibits that allow people to experience the potential of future Osaka. We have decided to exhibit on the 6th of May (Sunday). At the exhibitor presentation held today, a video message from Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura was released and exhibitor certificates were issued. As an exhibitor at the Expo, we also participated in the exhibition planning presentation and exhibited a demonstration plant scheduled to be constructed in Osaka. ■ Demonstration at demonstration plant towards “Osaka, the cleanest city in the world” BIOTECHWORKS-H2 aims to realize a highly
transparent circular economy under the mission of “From waste to hydrogen, and from hydrogen to renewable energy” as “REBORN by BIOTECHWORKS H-2 (waste ZERO project)” I am. At the Kansai-Osaka Expo, a 1/50 scale plant model created using a 3D printer and a reproduction of the city of Osaka will be used to represent Osaka as a
carbon-neutral city. Currently, our company is aiming to construct a demonstration plant in Osaka city with the support of the Osaka Industrial Bureau. Construction of the demonstration plant is expected to begin in 2025 and operations are expected to begin in 2026. The plant generates hydrogen by gasifying almost all organic waste, which is said to be difficult to recycle, without burning it. By further utilizing that hydrogen as renewable energy, we will realize a carbon-neutral world. During the Expo, visitors from all over the world will be able to see the construction site and experience Osaka, the world’s cleanest city, which does not rely on fossil fuels. BIOTECHWORKS-H2 has a system that chemically recycles not only apparel, which is our specialty, but also organic waste in general into clean hydrogen energy. This is a project that aims to use this as a medium to connect companies and people and build a circular economy with the aim of solving issues faced by the global environment and companies. BIOTECHWORKS-H2 Inc., an American corporation, has a contract with a plant company in the United States. By using this plant-based method to gasify waste without burning it, it is possible to convert more than 99% of organic waste into renewable energy. We have already completed a proof of concept, and our own demonstration experiments have confirmed that 6-13% of waste from textile products and 7-10% of food residue can be hydrogenated. Rather than throwing away waste materials (slag) that cannot be converted into energy, such as iron, the iron is turned into scrap iron, and the rest is effectively used for asphalt, construction materials, etc. The mixed gas generated at the plant is divided into hydrogen (H2) and carbon dioxide (CO2), and the hydrogen is used for power generation as renewable energy in fuel cells, hydrogen cogeneration, etc. It also does not emit CO2 and is planned to be provided to companies for use in carbonated drinks. Looking ahead to the construction of plants in Japan and Malaysia in 2025, we aim to create an era in which “all garbage becomes a resource and there is no waste” by 2030.
