The Challenge ~Challenge to travel across Japan~ Jack Thompson, Specialized’s global ambassador and known as Jack Ultra Cyclist, will attempt a world record trip across Japan from Cape Sata in Kagoshima Prefecture to Cape Soya in Hokkaido. This is an epic challenge that will start on Friday, October 4, 2024 and cover a total distance of approximately 2,600km in less than six days. He loves Japan’s landscape, culture, and people, and based on his past experiences, he decided to try again in Japan. I will be using my beloved Roubaix SL8 to convey to many people the wonders of challenging themselves to achieve their goals.

long-distance cycling, which involves cycling over a much longer distance than regular cycling. One of his most impressive challenges has been ultra-long distance rides across rugged terrain around the world, completing thousands of kilometers of challenging environments. Among them, Jack has accomplished the following challenges

As an ambassador for Specialized, he continues to take on new challenges and explore new possibilities for riding while continuing to share the appeal of cycling with cycling fans. This time, on this trip across Japan, more than just trying to set a world record, I will be valuing the process of trying and running in Japan. What made you decide to try to set the world record for crossing Japan?

The scenery, the people, the food and the experience are truly amazing. In 2018, my father and I traveled across Japan from north to south, and we had a great time as well. In 2023, I broke the Cannonball record from Osaka to Tokyo, and when I was making plans for 2024, I thought, “Why not run the whole of Japan this time and try to break the fastest record?” Which bike will you use for this challenge?

This bike is fast, comfortable, and less tiring on long daily rides. I’ve been riding Roubaix for the last four years and have set several world records during that time. The Future Shock technology is amazing and I never want to ride without it again. The tires are 32mm S-Works Mondo. These tires are fast, wear resistant, and give you peace of mind at night or when you get tired. I also use Rapide CLX II wheels and a 155mm S-Works Phenom saddle. What do you want to convey through this challenge?

It’s an adventure, so there will be good times and bad times, but I’m looking forward to it all. I hope that through this challenge, more Japanese people will set goals and take on the challenge of achieving them. I’m also looking forward to enjoying lots of traditional Japanese food and relaxing my tired legs in the hot springs after the ride! Message to Japanese riders

Our raison d’être is “Pedal the Planet Forward,” and we aim to improve people’s health and quality of life through cycling, as well as improve environmental and social issues. In order to meet the needs of riders who want to ride faster, in 2013, Specialized became the first company in the industry to build an in-house wind tunnel testing facility exclusively for bicycles, the Win Tunnel, in pursuit of aerodynamics. We provide motorcycles and other equipment to top teams that mass-produce victories on world tours such as the Tour de France. In particular, the high-end model called “S-WORKS” means the highest grade product actually used by professionals, and is also supported by many serious amateur riders. Our relentless pursuit of technological innovation is reflected in our code of conduct: “Innovate or Die.” In addition, we have developed a wide lineup not only for top athletes but also for general users around the world, including mountain bikes, road bikes, cross bikes, kids bikes, and e-bikes, which utilize the same technology as the bikes ridden by top professional riders. We are selling models. [Specialized Japan] Official website>
