Jimbocho Theater, a masterpiece theater in the town of books, shows good old Japanese movies from the Showa era on film, spotlighting works from various angles such as directors, performers, and themes. This time, we will be screening a special film based on the original work by Toyoko Yamazaki, a best-selling author of social fiction novels. Born into a merchant family in Senba, Osaka, Toyoko Yamazaki worked as a newspaper reporter before becoming a writer. While adhering to the spirit of journalism, he became a best-selling author, writing numerous human dramas that delve into Osaka’s customs, sharp social aspects, and the inhumanity of war. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth, we will screen a film adaptation of Yamazaki’s original work. All works shown on 35mm film. A number of masterpieces of human dramas by the “master of social novels” have been made into feature-length blockbuster films with a gorgeous cast.
