Especially in classical music, it is very important to express the content of the score along with the composer’s thoughts. On the other hand, in jazz, music doesn’t seem to have a musical score. He improvises and arranges melodies and performs improvisations to bring out his own individuality. Expectations are high as to what kind of chemical reaction will occur between these two collaborations. The first half begins with a trio of saxophone, piano, and drums playing a jazz arrangement of classical music. The second half will feature a passionate collaboration between Tohoku Youth Orchestra volunteers and jazz musicians, focusing on Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music. The songs performed include “Aqua” and “Merry Christmas on the Battlefield” Music representative of Mr. Sakamoto, such as, will also be performed. Without making any changes to Ryuichi Sakamoto’s arrangement, jazz musicians will session with the Tohoku Youth Orchestra’s performance using “ad-lib”, the real thrill of jazz. This time’s sub-theme is “co-starring Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music and improvisation”. It will be a precious stage that will only be held on this day, unlike any other in the world! Graduated from Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory of Music, the world’s most prestigious music schools. During his visit to the United States, he performed as a guest at an event attended by former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, at the private residence of Boston Red Sox owner John Henry, and at a Japan-U.S.-related ceremony attended by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and others. He has been actively performing in the United States, including co-starring with world-renowned bassist Dave Holland. In 2019, he completed the master’s program at the New England Conservatory of Music and received a master’s degree in music. Fully return to Japan and move to base in Japan. Currently, we are holding Shun Kumagai jazz concerts with major sponsors such as Mitsui Fudosan and Suntory. This is a popular performance that continues to sell out in advance, attracting over 5,000 people a year, an unprecedented turnout for jazz. He has also released 11 albums so far. His self-composed songs have been well-received and have been used in commercials for the Jozenji Street Jazz Festival for four consecutive years, including 2024.
