Seoul and Mountain View, California, announced October 4, 2024 – Today, Hyundai Motor Company and Waymo announced a multi-year strategic partnership. In the first phase of this partnership, the 6th generation Waymo Driver fully autonomous driving technology developed by Waymo will be integrated into Hyundai’s electric SUV IONIQ 5. The vehicles will be gradually operated as the self-driving taxi “Waymo One.” Waymo’s self-driving technology will be integrated after the Waymo self-driving taxi IONIQ 5 is assembled at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America’s (HMGMA) new EV manufacturing facility in Georgia. The companies plan to mass produce IONIQ 5, powered by Waymo technology, over a multi-year period to support the expansion of Waymo One.
