He attended the commissioning ceremony and talk session, and excited the audience with a talk about “local life” with Nanao Mayor Yoshitaka Chatani, a senior from elementary and junior high school who was familiar with Tsukitei. Tsukitei Hōki’s family home in Nanao City was affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake. In his spare time from work, he supported his parents’ home and neighbors who were without water for about a month, and also held comfort rakugo performances and other events for the victims of the disaster in Shiga Town and Wajima City, both of which were hit harder than Nanao City. It brought laughter. Tsukitei Hoki, who was appointed as a hometown ambassador, said, “By going outside (Osaka) and coming back as a resident comedian, I was able to rediscover the characteristics and goodness of the local area. We will focus our efforts on spreading the word about our appeal, and we will also do our best to bring laughter to areas affected by earthquakes and heavy rains.” The term of office is until the end of March 2020.

A comedian who lives in Ishikawa Prefecture. After graduating from Kansai University’s Faculty of Law, he worked as an office worker in Osaka, and then formed a comedy duo, but they disbanded. Unable to give up on his dream of becoming a comedian, he decided to become a rakugo storyteller and became an apprentice at Tsukitei Happo in 2013. He studied in the Kamigata Rakugo world under Master Happo, and was appointed as a comedian living in Ishikawa Prefecture in April 2018. Since then, in parallel with his media activities such as TV and radio, he has taken advantage of his love for rakugo shows and public baths in all municipalities in Ishikawa Prefecture, earned him the title of “Kanazawa Super Ofuro Meister,” and started performing in public baths in the prefecture. In addition, he received an order from Kasumasa Tsukitei, a brother and son of the special tourism envoy for Tsubata Town, Ishikawa Prefecture, to promote Rakugo in Tsubata Town, and is currently working as a lecturer at the Tsubata Town Rakugo Class and at an elementary school in Tsubata Town.
