do.Sukasu begins joint research with Nara Women’s University. Verifying the effectiveness of spatial cognition training using VR in elderly people
do.Sukasu Press release: October 21, 2024 do.Sukasu begins joint research with Nara Women’s University. Verifying the effectiveness of spatial cognition training using VR for elderly people do.Sukasu Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nara Prefecture, Representative: Kazuki Kasai, pronunciation: Dosukasu), which works to solve social issues through evaluation and training of visual cognitive abilities, will be a subsidiary of Nara Women’s University (location: Nara Prefecture) from November 2024. In collaboration with Nara City (President: Masashi Takada), we have begun a joint study to verify the improvement of spatial cognition abilities of elderly people through training using VR.

Research overview In this research, we collaborated with Professor Daiki Nakata, who is active in the Department of Engineering, Nara Women’s University, to evaluate the spatial cognition ability of elderly people (de.Sukasu Training CATCH), a spatial cognition training system using VR provided by do.Sukasu. We will verify whether higher visual functions (higher visual functions) improve. At the same time, we will explore the effects on general cognitive functions. Target participants are elderly people between the ages of 60 and 85 who will participate in cooperation with the Nara City Silver Human Resources Center, and those with lower than average spatial cognition will be selected in advance. The subjects were divided into two groups, and one group underwent continuous training using “de.Sukasu Training CATCH” for 3 months (15 minutes each time, twice a week, 24 times in total), and the other group You will continue to lead a normal life. The effectiveness of the training will be evaluated and analyzed at the beginning, one month later, and three months later. The research will begin in November, and the results will be summarized after analyzing the effects. Research background and future developments It has been shown that spatial cognitive abilities change with age. The latest research by do.Sukasu shows that people’s abilities decline once in their 40s, and even more markedly in their 60s. What’s even more shocking is that by the age of 70, the average spatial cognitive ability is below that of a 5-year-old child. Image

If this training is shown to improve visual cognition, it will be possible to maintain and improve spatial cognition, which is important for safe driving, and contribute to extending healthy lifespans and improving quality of life. It is expected. do.Sukasu will continue to actively engage in industry-academia collaboration and advance technology development and verification. We will also work to solve social issues by contributing to improving healthy life expectancy and quality of life, as well as reducing nursing care risks and controlling medical costs. do.Sukasu・Representative Director Kazuki Kasai Comment

University. Through this research, do.Sukasu hopes to scientifically demonstrate that our technology can contribute to safe driving for elderly people by improving spatial cognition, which is highly related to accident risk. In addition, we will continue to develop products based on research results to support the healthy and safe lives of even more people. About visual recognition ability solution

Visual cognitive ability consists of spatial cognitive ability (recognizing the position of objects, distance, and
perspective) and object recognition ability (recognizing lines, shapes, and letters). do.Sukasu offers spatial cognition ability evaluation service using VR “KEEP”, spatial cognition training system “de.Sukasu Training CATCH”, object recognition ability evaluation service using tablet “FIND”, as well as smartphone spatial cognition ability evaluation service. Apps such as the app “de.Sukasu DRIVE” enable users to measure, evaluate, and train their visual cognitive abilities.
