The ANA Windsurfing World Cup Yokosuka/Miura Tournament Executive Committee (Secretariat: Yokosuka City, Chairman: Katsuaki Uechi) will hold the ANA Windsurfing World Cup for five days from Friday, November 8th to Tuesday, November 12th. The Windsurfing World Cup Yokosuka Miura Tournament will be held at Tsukuihama Beach (Yokosuka City). The Windsurfing World Cup is a world tour in which the world’s top professional athletes travel to approximately 10 countries over the course of a year. In Japan, it has been held every year since 2017 (cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus), and this year marks the 6th time. This tournament will also be held as the final round of the World Tour, and approximately 100 of the world’s top racers will gather for a fierce battle. For two days, November 9th (Saturday) and 10th (Sunday), we will hold a new event called “Gokuji Japan”, a foodie-coveted event where delicious food from all over Japan gathers together, as well as French gourmet food, miscellaneous goods, and more. “Le Marche Bonjour France”, where you can enjoy shopping, will be held at the same time, and the event will attract approximately 140,000 spectators (40,000 visitors and 100,000 viewers online), making it an event that even those unfamiliar with windsurfing can enjoy. I aim for it. A marking battle full of speed unfolds right in front of the beach! The race is a “slalom” run with multiple mark buoys set up on a zigzag course from windward to leeward, where windsurfers can gain the most speed. The men’s fastest record was approximately 65km/h, and the race was held off the coast of Tsukuihama, one of Japan’s best beaches with a “side shore” wind (wind blowing from right next to the ocean) that is suitable for this “slalom”. It is known as a ski slope. Last year’s race was a heated race despite wind speeds exceeding 20m/s, with marking battles full of speed unfolding on the observation boat, on the beach, and on smartphone screens.

An even more exciting battle, different from last year’s tournament, will unfold before your eyes, overturning conventional wisdom about windsurfing. Great for offshore races too! The website “HAWKCAST” will be released where you can obtain competition information during the competition period, and the race status will also be displayed on the large vision screen at the competition venue. The race is held offshore about 1km from land, and as it is difficult to see the developments with the naked eye, HAWKCAST will be used to liven up the viewing experience. By accessing it from your personal smartphone or tablet, you can watch the race in real time using race watching animations. In addition, you can check the schedule for each race, list of participants, race status, race result report, confirmed race results, etc. in real time, making it easier to understand areas where it is difficult to distinguish between athletes from the video alone.
