Between 50,000 and 100,000 people will attend. The 41st event in 2024 (Reiwa 6) will be the fourth time it will be held in Ishikawa Prefecture. The main theme of this year’s competition is “The underlying power of crafts and the wings of reconstruction – Japanese fine arts from Ishikawa to the future.” In Ishikawa, where many traditional crafts have been passed down for a long time, the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January and the Noto heavy rain disaster in September caused severe damage that threatened the tradition. We will not only send encouragement to the current and future craftsmen who will carry on the inheritance of traditional crafts from all over the country, including Ishikawa, but we will also spread the splendor of traditional crafts and the charm of traditional culture from Ishikawa to both Japan and abroad. We will show you a strong recovery. ■ What are traditional crafts? In various parts of Japan, there are various daily necessities that have been used as necessities of life since ancient times, such as kimonos and tea bowls. Among them, crafts that have a history of more than 100 years and are made by hand by craftsmen using mainly natural raw materials are designated by the government as “traditional crafts” and will be designated as “traditional crafts” by the government in October 2024. As of the 17th, there are 243 items. The products that have been cultivated in Japan’s climate and culture have beautifully colored our lives as the seasons change. Although it has evolved little by little with the changing times, it continues to be used and loved today as an indispensable item in our daily lives.
