Although he got a job after graduating from high school, he could not give up on his dream of becoming a professional wrestler and joined All Japan Pro Wrestling in July 1978. He made his debut on March 5, 1979 against Kazuharu Sonoda. In April 1983, he defeated Mitsuharu Misawa in the Lou Thes Cup competition league match to win the championship. The following year, he traveled to Mexico with Misawa and performed under the name Samurai Shiro. In 1985, he moved to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he captivated fans with a number of passionate battles, including famous matches with Nobuhiko Takada (now Nobuhiko), and forming the Heisei Ishingun and struggling as a leader. After leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2003, he worked for WJ Pro Wrestling and then became a freelancer.
