One of the ceremonies to celebrate the new year is the “Mitsuokazari Okishiki,” where the king and his vassals exchange drinks. During this program, you can celebrate the new year by listening to the “Ozagaku” and Ryukyu classical music that were played during the ceremony. Before the performance begins, Hoshinoya Okinawa staff will provide information on the history of the banquet and Ryukyu instruments, allowing participants to enjoy the performance more deeply. [What is Gozagaku] During the Ryukyu Dynasty, this music was performed at important occasions such as the “Edo Nouri” when the royal government sent a delegation to Edo, and during the “Sakuho Ceremony” to entertain envoys from China in addition to New Year’s. It is called “gozagaku” because it is played indoors while sitting in ensemble, and it is also characterized by the use of many Chinese-related instruments such as the yōkin, kokin, and pipa. Due to its solemn and elegant style, it is also called the gagaku of the Ryukyu Kingdom. [Performer affiliation introduction] Shuri Royal Palace Aharenjijiraku Gozagaku Preservation Society (Shurioufu Aharen Rujigaku Uzagaku Hozonkai) “Rojiraku” and “Ozagaku” were court music from the Ryukyu Dynasty. Formed in 1977 under the guidance of Mr. Kensho Chinen, who comes from a family of Shuri Ofujigaku performers. He researches and performs music that was once called phantom court music, with instruments and sheet music disappearing, with the aim of restoring, preserving, and passing on traditional culture. Feature 2: Experience the skills of craftsmen who have inherited tradition through cooking, sake, and utensils

There are three types of bite-sized dishes that are perfect for a pre-dinner meal: “Tofu yolk and foie gras mousse,” “Mimigar jelly,” and “Piperch-scented winter melon pickled chocolate.” All of them are modern arrangements of traditional Okinawan ingredients and cooking methods. Celebrate the New Year with a special banquet that brings back memories of the New Year in the Ryukyu Kingdom, in a place where the sea breeze blows just as it did back then. [What are the three decorations] Liquor made from a golden cup (kinpai), a silver cup (ginwan), a silver sink (ginsei nagashidai), and a silver bowl with a bar (takutsuki ginwan), which was used in royal New Year rituals in the Ryukyu Dynasty. A general term for a container, a tin sake bottle decorated with glass beads called “Utamanuchi”, and a food basket. In this program, we will offer sacred sake (awamori) on a Ryukyuan ritual tool called “shude”, which was created by a modern
metalworker. Reference: Okinawa Prefectural Museum [Ryukyu
