■Overview Nose/Toyono Machizukuri Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nose Town, Toyono District, Osaka Prefecture; President and CEO: Yuki Enohara) has begun a demonstration experiment using EV tuk-tuks to resolve transportation issues in the Satoyama region of northern Osaka Prefecture. Over the next year or so, we will examine specific ways to use it as a means of transportation for tourists. We aim to contribute to tourism promotion through tuk-tuk rental services in Nose and Toyono towns, where bus routes are being abolished and railway services are being reduced due to population decline and a decline in the number of public transportation users due to the coronavirus pandemic. ■Features • In Nose Town and Toyono Town, due to declining profitability of transportation companies, bus routes that serve residents and tourists have been withdrawn and railway services have been reduced, and the Myoken Forest Cable, which connects to Mt. (Nose Electric Railway) also ended its operations in December 2023. There are concerns about the impact on nearby tourism businesses in the future. • Through repeated workshops aimed at resolving transportation issues with local residents, we discovered the tuk-tuk, a
three-wheeled vehicle that is used in cities and tourist destinations in Southeast Asia as a vehicle that can turn in a small radius and enjoy the scenery unique to satoyama while traveling. We focused on • Two EV tuk-tuks will be installed, powered by zero-carbon electricity supplied by our company. The vehicle seats four people, including the driver, and has a maximum speed of 60 km/h.
