■Tottori Prefecture’s acceptance status of foreign human resources Japan’s labor shortage is becoming more serious year by year due to the declining birthrate and aging population. Among these, the shortage of labor and human resources in the nursing care field is conspicuous, and it has been announced that an additional 250,000 people will be needed in 2026 compared to 2022, and 570,000 people will be needed in 2040*1. Under these circumstances, an increasing number of nursing care providers are accepting foreign nursing care workers by taking advantage of the “Specified Skilled Worker” status of residence, which was newly established in 2019. As of the end of June 2024, there are 36,719 foreign workers with specific skills and nursing care working across the country*2. In the case of Tottori Prefecture, the proportion of the population aged 65 and over in 2023 will be 33.3%, one third of whom will be elderly, and this is expected to exceed 40% by 2050*3, so the need for caregiving personnel will continue to grow. is also expected to increase.
