[JeSU] Report on e-sports utilization seminar (for local government officials) towards realizing a cohesive society
JeSU Press release: November 7, 2024 Report on e-sports utilization seminar (for local government officials) aimed at realizing a cohesive society The Japan Esports Union (Chairman: Hideki Hayakawa, hereinafter referred to as JeSU) held a seminar on Saturday, November 2nd for local government officials aimed at supporting people with disabilities and the elderly using esports. I’ll let you know what I did. E-sports, which treats competitions using video games as sports competitions, is said to be characterized by the ability for everyone to enjoy the competition together, regardless of age, gender, or physical handicap. Until now, JeSU has taken advantage of the “handicap-less” feature of e-sports and has been preparing and considering ways for people with
disabilities to participate in society through e-sports. Starting this year, we have received a grant from the Nippon Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, to engage in specific human resource development and awareness activities, and this will be our second sponsored seminar following the one in July. This seminar aims to create an inclusive society where everyone can participate and revitalize the region, and the local government and JeSU will share information on new possibilities for supporting people with
disabilities and the elderly using e-sports. It was carried out as a purpose. Approximately 30 people from local governments and e-sports related parties participated in the seminar, including online seminars, and the seminar included demonstrations and experiences such as e-sports support activities by the Tokyo Occupational Therapists Association and e-sports using accessibility devices. I was able to deepen my understanding. In addition, in the group discussion, a lively and meaningful exchange of opinions took place, including sharing examples and issues faced by each local government.
