The publication of ISO56001 in September of this year ushered in a new era in innovation management. ISO56001 is a certification standard of the international standard “ISO56000 series” for innovation management systems (IMS), joining the already published ISO56000 (basics and terminology) and ISO56002 (guidance standard). ISO 56001, which was published in 2021 after approximately four years of deliberation with more than 70 countries and international organizations participating in the negotiations, clarifies the requirements for organizational and systematic innovation activities, and will help companies and other organizations in the future. It will become a measure of the maturity of the innovation system of all organizations in the world, and a common language for collaboration among global organizations. Japan Innovation Network (JIN), a general incorporated association, has participated in international deliberations on the ISO 56000 series on behalf of Japan, and provides support to accelerate systematic innovation in Japanese companies with the aim of increasing Japan’s competitiveness.
