On Sports Day, October 14th (Monday/holiday), the Kirishima Sports Festival 2024 was held, sponsored by the Kirishima City Sports Association. Various sports organizations affiliated with the Kirishima City Sports Association will set up experience booths, making this an event where people of all ages and genders can enjoy sports. By participating in this event, we aimed to contribute to the local community and raise awareness of the field of sports science at universities. Continuing from last year, Daiichi University of Technology had a booth with Associate Professor Yuki Nakai and Assistant Professor Yasufumi Takeshita from the Department of Information, AI and Data Science and Sports Science. Students from the sports support circle and judo club also participated as staff members.

participants with the experience of measuring physical function and performance. Approximately 200 people, ranging from small children to the elderly, participated in the experience of measuring muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical function. We used specialized equipment to provide feedback on physical functions, including measuring abdominal pressure, which is an indicator of abdominal muscle strength, and body composition analysis, which measures muscle mass and body fat. This year, we also have vision training equipment that measures explosive strength, and participants said, “The measurement experience was fun” and “It was a good opportunity to learn about my own physical strength.” Our university’s efforts in the field of sports science The “Sports Science Field” was established in the Faculty of Engineering at our university in 2021, and currently has low awareness among local residents. In Kirishima City, we actively participate in local activities and work on community contribution and public relations activities to spread the word that there are places to study sports science at universities. In the future, we would like to actively hold events such as physical function and performance measurement sessions and lectures in response to requests from local sports clubs and organizations. By sharing knowledge of sports science, we will support improving competitive ability and promoting health.
