Toshikiro Kuniyoshi solo exhibition “Region Free” Hotel Anteroom Naha GALLERY9.5 NAHA (3-27-11 Maejima, Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, Management Company: Okinawa UDS Co., Ltd., Representative Director: Yuichiro Katagiri) will be hosting Toshiki Kuniyoshi, an Okinawan photographer currently based in New York. We will be holding a solo exhibition “Region Free” by Tokio Kuyoshi. This exhibition connects and intersects the cultures and histories rooted in the diverse lands of Okinawa and New York with the energies of nature and the city through the expansion of photographic expression and reinterpretation as media. This exhibition, Kuniyoshi’s first solo exhibition in Okinawa, will feature works that print New York’s landscapes and people on Ryukyu limestone and Okinawan paper, as well as works inspired by Okinawan traditional patterns called “minsa”. We are planning to present a collaborative work with BANKIYO, an artist with ties to Okinawa. We hope that you will be interested in Kuniyoshi’s new challenge and that you will take a look. Lives in New York. In 2002, he moved to the United States and studied photography in San Francisco for four years. In 2006, he moved to New York in search of new possibilities. While he mainly focuses on photographing people, he also focuses on exhibiting fine art photography, and has held many exhibitions both domestically and internationally, winning numerous awards at competitions. He also attempts to create installations and experimental works using photography as a medium.
