JOGMEC Press release: November 8, 2024 [Event report] CCS business environment workshop held with Vietnam national oil company PetroVietnam ~First attempt to build a CCS business environment in Vietnam~ JOGMEC (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Chairman: Ichiro Takahara) announced on October 30, 2024, in collaboration with Vietnam’s national oil company PetroVietnam, with the support of JX Oil Exploration Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “JX”). held a workshop to promote the CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) business environment in Vietnam. This workshop was the first to focus on the CCS business environment in Vietnam. JOGMEC, in collaboration with Vietnam’s national oil company PetroVietnam and with the support of JX, will hold a CCS workshop in Vietnam (Da Nang City) on October 30, 2024, with the aim of promoting the CCS business environment in Vietnam. I did. Approximately 150 people attended this workshop, including government officials from both countries working on carbon neutrality, including Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Vietnam’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural and Environmental Resources, as well as companies involved in the energy business in Vietnam. participated. Since JOGMEC and PetroVietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2007, they have been working on various joint projects related to upstream oil business. In 2022, we will include CCS in the scope of our MOU, further strengthening our relationship. Based on this MOU, the two parties will conclude a Joint Study Agreement (hereinafter referred to as “JSA”) regarding CCS research in Vietnam in February 2024, and are currently proceeding with the study together with JX, which is working on upstream oil development projects in Vietnam. I am. This workshop was held as part of the above MOU and JSA initiatives. This workshop confirmed the need to accelerate the development of the business environment for the realization of CCS in Vietnam and deepen cooperation between the two countries. They also reaffirmed their intention to strengthen their cooperative relationship in the future. We hope that the understanding and knowledge gained through this workshop will contribute to the creation of a CCS business environment in Vietnam. We will strive to strengthen our cooperative relationship.
