representatives from among the approximately 70 participants in the 2024 Miss International World Competition visited Enshu Tea Ceremony Soke in Wakamiya-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. In the formality and deep tradition of the Enshu-ryu Tea Ceremony, which boasts a history of 440 years, we experienced the spirit of hospitality unique to Japan. Contestants took on the challenge of experiencing tea parties and Japanese sweets. Even though I had a hard time sitting upright and was confused by the etiquette unique to a tea ceremony, I took tea seriously. The way these girls, with their flamboyance and purity, devoted themselves to the challenge echoed the essence of Enshu-style tea ceremony, “Kirei Sabi,” and a pure beauty wafted through the atmosphere. ■Enshu-ryu tea ceremony: https://www.enshuryu.com/ Image
