sequentially. Date, time, location, etc. are subject to change. Please contact the organizer for details. [What is a book tenement house] This is a shared bookstore where each box has its own owner. The owner of the Hako store, who is known for his variety of books, selects and displays books of his own choosing. Anyone can become a Hako store owner (please contact us directly or refer to our website for fees, systems, etc.). ●A place to connect with people through books Communities are built through communication. This is something I learned while running a book club. We will create a place where people can feel safe and connected, filled with the words of many people. This is the starting point for the book tenement house. A comfortable place for people and books, a place for everyone to come back to or leave for anytime. The future of book tenements is here. ●Studying with 100-year-old architecture After the Great Kanto Earthquake, this tenement house was built as people who had been affected by the downtown area moved to areas along the Chuo Line. This is an old private house built about 100 years ago, which is rare in Tokyo. We constructed the tenement house with the idea of regenerating and utilizing the old building rather than tearing it down and rebuilding it. However, there is no end in sight, and we are still making changes little by little. People who love and cherish old things gather in this tenement house. ●Believe in the power of words Books continue to exist beyond time. I remember clearly the day I read Plato’s “The Feast” and was moved by it. A book written more than 2,000 years ago is being read in this country far from Greece, and it is thrilling. Plato’s desire to preserve Socrates’ words was vividly burnt in this book. The power of words. It may seem like a fancy word that is easily used and overlooked, but now is the time to take advantage of the saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. This is one of the wishes of Nagaya Hon.
