Keynote speech by Ryusuke Oda/Graduate School of Educational Technology On November 9, 2024, the autumn research presentation of the “International P2M Society” was held at Aoyama Gakuin University. Keynote speeches were given by Mr. Atsushi Oku (Director, Human Resources Policy Division, Science and Technology Policy Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), Mr. Toru Kato (Chairman, Japan Project Management Association), and Ryusuke Oda, Executive Director of Educational Technology Graduate University. The theme of this year’s conference is “Creating new measures through collaboration between industry, government, and academia to solve future social issues.” Focusing on school management, the discussion revolved around the need for advanced management personnel, not just teachers. Mr. Oku presented the current state of consideration and future prospects of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology regarding the promotion of the utilization of doctoral human resources, and Mr. Kato stated that Japan is undergoing major changes in the process of shifting the industry as a whole from a manufacturing model to a service creation model. It was suggested that Japan is lagging behind, and that there is a need for “mission-oriented professionals” who view things interdisciplinaryly and use various knowledge deductively to solve problems. After this, Executive Director Oda of the Graduate University of Educational Technology took the stage and gave a lecture titled, “Working to solve social issues! About the aims of the graduate school scheduled to open next year.” At the beginning, Mr. Kato stated that the mission of our graduate school is to develop “mission-achieving professionals,” as mentioned in his lecture, and then discussed how individualized learning and data utilization will affect the learning environment and methods. He passionately talked about the future direction of the industry and the potential of technology. We also asked the question, “Are we ready for these changes?” After that, he explained the usefulness of DX and listed the following 10 things that can be achieved with educational DX. 1. Realizing optimal individual learning 2. Digitization of research methods 3. Providing a global learning space, global PBL 4. Online international collaborative learning 5. Freedom from restrictions on course location and time 6. Experiments and social experiences using AR and VR 7. Verification of educational effectiveness based on data and evidence 8. Data-driven education 9. Records and proof of learning history 10. Inter-university cooperation and lectures at multiple universities and higher education institutions become easier Director-General Oda passionately stated that in order to overcome the challenges facing the education industry, “We need to increase the number of management and IT personnel in the education industry, change their mindset, and change the industry.” He also emphasized that data and evidence should be accumulated, just like in the medical world. One audience member at the venue said, “I would like to see the perspective of program and project management included in the “management theory” courses in graduate schools,” indicating high expectations. At one point, the audience erupted in excitement at the request for a doctoral program. The Graduate School of Educational Technology, which will open next spring, is expected to attract future innovators in the education industry. ■Note from Educational Technology Graduate University
