Kiyotaka Sugiyama’s concert tour “Like watching an old cinema…” in the second half of 2024 started at KT Zepp Yokohama in Kanagawa on Saturday, November 9th. A total of 13 performances will be held until the final performance on Saturday, December 21st at Showa Women’s University Hitomi Memorial Hall in Tokyo.

coronavirus. Sugiyama, who rarely gives tour titles, chose the unusual title “Old Cinema,” so does this album consist of a lot of film music? That’s not what you think. Sugiyama expresses his feeling that “old hit charts included movie music, and I enjoyed listening to it as well,” and he created various scenery and scenes from his own songs as if he were enjoying movie music. It is said that the songs were selected in such a way that they could be seen. The number that was delivered immediately after the opening song was “She”, sung by Elvis Costello and the theme song for the movie “Notting Hill” (released in 1999) (originally written by Charles Aznavour in 1974). While listening to Kiyotaka Sugiyama’s everlasting singing voice, I felt myself being drawn to this live theme. After that, Sugiyama’s light-hearted talk will introduce the songs, and the world of songs will unfold, incorporating themes and sights such as Hawaii, New York, Yokohama, and night and summer scenery. The performance featured harmonica and saxophone melodies performed by masters, and the stage unfolded in such a way that each scene was depicted in the listener’s mind. The tour has just begun, so please enjoy the songs delivered at the venue. The sound of this minimal and chic stage has matured further as they toured around the country, and on the first day of the tour, expectations were high as to what kind of stage they would perform on the final day of the tour.
