What is the “modular blockchain” paradigm? Traditional blockchains such as Ethereum and BTC adopt a monolithic architecture that is completed by a single chain, and are called “monolithic blockchains.” On the other hand, a new architecture that is attracting attention is “modular blockchain.” A modular blockchain is an architecture in which a chain is decomposed into several layers and each layer is combined like a module to construct a single chain. Modular blockchains allow the optimal combination of layers for each function, achieving high scalability that is said to be more than 100 times that of monolithic blockchains. Currently, the most mainstream consensus mechanism is “Proof of Stake” (PoS), which is used in Ethereum etc., but Proof of Liquidity is a new concept that replaces PoS. The main drawback of PoS is that it “does not itself generate any direct economic activity.” Since it is only necessary to lock tokens and receive rewards, it is economically rational from the perspective of individual validators, but the economic effect on the ecosystem as a whole is limited. On the other hand, PoL gives voting power to substantive economic activities (such as providing liquidity to the Sunrise L1 native liquidity pool), creating a positive virtuous cycle throughout the network. This series of virtuous cycles is called “The Liquidity Flywheel.” 2. Data availability certification mechanism using off-chain Blob Sunrise enables the realization of “big block L2”, which was difficult with conventional DA layers. This is because Sunrise, unlike other DA layers, employs off-chain blobs. For example, with traditional DA layers such as Celestia, it is necessary to write Blob data on-chain when proving data availability, which limits the data processing capacity. Sunrise, on the other hand, writes data to off-chain distributed storage like Arweave. This makes it possible to realize full-on-chain AI and blockchain games (BCG), which exceed the data processing capacity of traditional L2. 3. Native support for IBC IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) is an interoperability standard born from the Cosmos ecosystem that enables communication and asset transfer between independent blockchains. Sunrise inherits assets from the Cosmos ecosystem as it supports IBC natively on the chain. Furthermore, L2 built using OPStack etc. on Sunrise DA can also support IBC.
