Became director of the dermatology department in 2015 and vice director in 2015. Currently, he is the vice director of Atago Dermatology, a dermatology clinic. In addition to examining the skin of patients aged 0 to 100, he is also passionate about raising awareness of dermatological diseases such as atopic dermatitis through support for patient associations, television, and magazines. President of the Japanese Society of Clinical Dermatologists, Japan Allergy Friends Association There is a possibility that the treatment environment will change to one where you can aim for smooth and chewy skin, and you will be able to live an itchy-free life I want you to visualize the skin you want to have and tell it to your dermatologist As a dermatologist, I examine patients suffering from itchy diseases such as atopic dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, and idiopathic chronic urticaria. Itching is a sign that something is wrong inside and outside the body. Being itchy is never “normal”. However, some patients have been dealing with chronic itching for a long time, and the itching has become a daily occurrence. Even though the quality of life is decreasing due to itching, such as not being able to concentrate on work or study or affecting sleep, it seems that even this is normal. From a doctor’s perspective, I sometimes feel like I could be aiming for better skin conditions. Currently, the treatment environment for atopic dermatitis, prurigo nodularis, and idiopathic chronic urticaria is changing. As the mechanism of itch has been elucidated, treatment options have increased, and even those whose symptoms could not be controlled with existing treatments or those who have given up on treatment in the past may be able to change their skin condition. It is not impossible to have smooth and supple skin. In addition, by properly treating the itching that is affecting your daily life, you may be able to live a life without itching, allowing you to sleep soundly until the morning, enjoy fashion, and concentrate on work or study. . Now that the treatment environment has changed, it’s time to take a look at your own skin and visualize the skin you want to have and your ideal goals. And please tell your dermatologist. When we talk in the consultation room, we often find that patients and doctors have different images and goals for treatment. In order to prevent this, it is necessary for patients to share with their doctors the skin they want to have, and to discuss what steps they can take to get closer to it. Patients and doctors are one team. Let’s aim for your ideal goal together. At Sanofi, we will continue to work to raise awareness and disseminate the latest information on diseases and treatments so that each patient with an itchy skin disease can find the optimal treatment method and lead a better daily life. About atopic dermatitis Atopic dermatitis, a type of eczema, is a chronic inflammatory disease with symptoms including rash [1,2,3,4]. Moderate to severe atopic dermatitis is characterized by a widespread rash that may be accompanied by persistent, severe and intractable itching, dry skin, fissures, erythema, crusting, and capillary bleeding [ 5,6]. Itching is the biggest burden for patients with atopic dermatitis and can be debilitating. In addition, patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis develop sleep disorders, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, which affect their quality of life (QOL) [7]. About prurigo nodularis Prurigo nodularis is an inflammatory skin disease that causes large, itchy bumps (nodules) about 1 cm in diameter. Nodules may spread to large areas of the body and are characterized by painful skin symptoms that include itching as well as a burning and pinpricks sensation. It is known that the impact on quality of life (QOL) is particularly large among inflammatory skin diseases that are accompanied by severe itching, and can have negative effects on daily life such as inability to sleep, inability to concentrate on work or housework, and inability to enjoy leisure time. [8,9] About idiopathic chronic urticaria Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by the sudden appearance of wheals and deep subcutaneous edema. While the cause of the disease has not been identified, the timing of onset of symptoms cannot be predicted for patients with this disease, which can lead to exhaustion and a marked decline in quality of life (QOL).
