Contemporary Art, Kanazawa from November 20th to introduce Kaga Inlay, a traditional craft from Ishikawa Prefecture that we have been promoting and preserving since our founding. In this exhibition, we will display approximately 100 valuable Kaga inlay works and materials, mainly works by the third generation of the Yamakawa Koji family, collected by the Sokeikai over a period of 30 years. We will also display works by contemporary artists, including living national treasures, who have passed down the techniques to the present day, allowing you to see the development of Kaga inlay in modern times. Through the exhibition, we trace Sokeikai’s efforts to pass on the Kaga inlay technique. ■Sokeikai and Nikkiso Sokeikai was established in 1993 by the late Jiro Oto, founder of Nikkiso Co., Ltd. Jiro Otokei’s roots lie in the lineage of the Koji Yamakawa family, a prestigious family of Kaga inlays, and as an engineer who was one of the first to establish a high-tech industry after the war, he found the origin and pride of his craftsmanship in the delicate technique of Kaga inlay. Ta. We established a foundation to carry out activities to preserve and develop Kaga Zogan and pass it on to the next generation, and we have carried out various activities to date. The Sokei Hall, located on the premises of Nikkiso Co., Ltd.’s Kanazawa Works, displays masterpieces of Kaga metalwork to the public, including works by the famous Koji Yamakawa family of Kaga inlays. In addition, as part of our successor training project, we hold metal engraving classes for the general public and conduct hands-on classes in and outside of Ishikawa Prefecture, among other activities.
