“Learning support for vulnerable children in refugee camps in the mountains of Lebanon” has been cooperating with “Lights of the City” since 2024 (Implementation/Photo provided by: Palestinian Children’s Campaign) Ayus is an international cooperation NGO established in 1993 by Buddhist volunteers. It supports NGOs financially based on membership fees and donations received from member temples and related parties across the country, and works with NGOs to expand the world. We work to solve various problems and create opportunities for Buddhists, NGOs, and citizens to meet and learn from each other.
https://ngo-ayus.jp The City Lights support project respects the concept of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aims to create a society where no one is left behind, and is based on the words of the late founder Masumi Shigeta, who always said, “Where the light doesn’t shine.” This is a support system that started in 2020 to cooperate with NGOs/NPOs that take advantage of the philosophy of “Shining light to society” and work on “Shining light” activities both domestically and internationally. We will support projects based on any of the following three perspectives that are being carried out in Japan and abroad. (1) Activities to light the light of hope for people who are left behind in society (2) Activities aimed at eliminating discrimination, conflict, and division and creating a peaceful society where human rights are respected (3) Citizen-led activities aimed at realizing a sustainable society Eligible organizations are civil society organizations (NGOs/NPOs, etc.) headquartered in Japan that carry out the projects eligible for the above support. The conditions are that the organization has been operating for more than two years, and that it has democratic management and information disclosure similar to that of a non-profit organization. However, in view of the continuity of the support that Ayus has provided to international cooperation NGOs, etc., new or ongoing initiatives aimed at raising issues and solving problems from a global perspective may not be implemented due to financial difficulties or other reasons. Priority will be given to projects that are judged to be difficult. For details, please refer to the page below.
