Representative: Katsutoshi Mizokami (hereinafter referred to as Ensort) has expanded its partnership with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shunichi Kifuji; hereinafter referred to as Idemitsu Kosan), a comprehensive energy and materials development company. We announced that we will support Idemitsu Kosan’s vision to scale up the development and manufacturing of innovative battery materials. This expanded partnership will provide new strategic technology consulting and implementation services in addition to the renewal of Ensort’s proprietary Materials Informatics Acceleration Program. This expansion and renewal demonstrates Idemitsu Kosan’s strong commitment in accelerating product research and development (R&D) in innovation-driven businesses to realize a carbon-neutral future through materials informatics, process informatics and DX. . Idemitsu Kosan is leading Japan’s transformation from a top oil refining company to a leading company in the energy materials field. As part of its goal of achieving carbon neutrality in 2030, Idemitsu Kosan is aiming to commercialize solid electrolytes (SE) for the production of all-solid-state batteries. Along the way, Idemitsu Kosan has made major investments in
digitalization, partnering with Ensort in 2023 to accelerate materials and process development and provide the insights needed to scale up quickly. Dr. Hiroshi Mizuno, General Manager, Strategic Planning Office, Technology Strategy Department, Advanced Materials Company, Idemitsu Kosan, commented as follows. “Ensort has deep expertise in both materials science and digital technology, and works closely with our researchers and engineers to develop scientific software solutions to solve our most difficult problems. With their expertise, we can effectively identify pain points in existing workflows and create ideal solutions. Our innovative workflow and roadmapping methods and agile development methods have resulted in software of unprecedented quality and effectiveness. For this reason, we are expanding our partnership with Ensort. We have decided to pursue challenging business goals.” DX not only aims to provide new value to customers and increase internal productivity by 30%, which is Idemitsu Kosan’s short-term business growth goal, but also to develop new advanced materials businesses and achieve carbon neutrality in the long term. It is also an essential element in the creation of product lines. Materials informatics is a modern materials discovery and product development approach that combines materials science, data science, and scientific computing, and plays a key role in achieving these goals. Successful DX and materials informatics requires implementing new digital infrastructure and tools, establishing new business processes across the organization, and implementing a comprehensive digital upskilling plan. As a result of these efforts, Idemitsu Kosan received DX certification from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in 2021 and 2023. Dr. Mike Heiber, Ensort Director of Professional Services & Customer Success and Materials Informatics, said: “Materials informatics technology, harnessed properly, has the power to truly transform a laboratory or business unit. And that transformation is now being realized at Idemitsu Kosan. We were able to support the progress of DX in R&D and contribute to its acceleration. I am deeply honored to be involved in this project.I myself have a strong interest in sustainability and will use our materials informatics expertise to support the electrification of transportation and help Idemitsu Kosan achieve its carbon neutrality goals. I’m very happy to be able to help you.” To learn more about Enthought’s digital transformation efforts, please visit:
