Born in 1922. Raised in Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture. During the Pacific War, he went to Rabaul, a fierce battleground, and lost his left arm in a bombing raid. After being discharged from the military, he became a picture-story show writer, and then turned to a manga artist. His representative works include “GeGeGe no Kitaro”, “Kappa no Sanpei”, and “Akuma-kun”. ■What is Manga Kingdom Tottori Tottori Prefecture has produced many famous manga artists, including Shigeru Mizuki of “GeGeGe no Kitaro”, Jiro Taniguchi of “Harukana Machi e” and “Chichi no Calendar”, and Gosho Aoyama of “Detective Conan”.
