Real name: Mutsuo Yoshimura, December 4, 1944 – August 9, 2001 Born in Noichi Town, Kami District, Kochi Prefecture. His representative works include “Tosa no Ipponri,” “Tosa no Oniyan,” and “Kawauta.” He has published many works set in his hometown of Tosa (Kochi). After graduating from junior high school, he worked hard to create manga while continuing to train as a chef for 8 years, and debuted in 1966 with “Ikinuki”, which won COM’s Monthly Newcomer Award. His most famous work, “Tosa’s Pole-and-Tsuri,” was made into a movie by Shochiku in 1980. “Big Comic” (Shogakukan) is the place where his works are often presented. Aoyagi’s works depict love, hope, and suffering in the sea-scented Kochi, creating a unique world. There are many works that can be drawn only because he lives in Kochi. It is said that Junpei in “Tosa Ippon Tsuri” is a direct projection of Aoyagi. He passed away on August 9, 2001 due to basal cell carcinoma of the parotid gland. He passed away at the age of 56.
