Writer. Her writing ranges from essays to novels, picture books, and tanka. As a poet, she is a member of the Cosmos Tanka Society and won the 62nd Kiri no Hana Award in 2025. Her collection of poems includes “Whistling in the Water” (Sousosha). Her novella “Voice of the Icicle” (Kodansha) was nominated for the 165th Akutagawa Prize. Recent works include the essay collections “Love Like Putting Milk in Coffee” (Kodansha) and “Eating Steam” (Orange Page), and the collection of novellas “How to Throw Away a Snow Globe” (Kodansha). Someno Taro Born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1977. Currently lives in Osaka Prefecture. Poet. Joined the tanka poetry society “Mahiruno” as a high school student. Received the 18th Japan Poets Club Newcomer Award for his first collection of poems, “The Sea of That Day” (Honami Shoten). Judge for the 2015 “NHK Tanka” program on Educational TV. In 2016, she published her second collection of poems, Mermaid (KADOKAWA), in 2021 she published the Contemporary Tanka Classics series The Sea of That Day, and in 2023 she published her third collection of poems, First Love (both published by Shoshi Kankanbo). She is a member of the tanka fanzines “Going Out” and “Watermelon.” She is also an editorial committee member of “Mahiruno.”
