【UPDATER Co., Ltd.】 TBS Radio and UPDATER launch the “ON-AIR COOL” project
UPDATER Inc. Press Release: August 29, 2025 TBS Radio and UPDATER launch “ON-AIR COOL” project TBS Radio Conducts First Demonstration Experiment to Eliminate Heatstroke at Broadcasting Sites UPDATER Inc. (Headquarters: Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Eiji Oishi), a company that solves social issues in an
entertaining way, and TBS Radio Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shintaro Hayashi), will be conducting the “ON-AIR COOL” project, a demonstration experiment from Monday, August 18, 2025 to Tuesday, September 30, 2025, to visualize the risk of heatstroke at broadcasting sites and event venues and encourage preventive action. In this project, we will distribute wristband-type wearable devices to production staff, performers, event participants, and others. We will combine remote data management via SIM communication with nationwide measurement data held by UPDATER’s work environment SX service “Minna Works” to analyze environmental risks specific to broadcasting sites. The knowledge gained will be used in a wide range of ways, from promoting preventive behavior and immediate countermeasures on-site to developing long-term safety manuals, with the possibility of expanding this to other stations and industries.

Measurements Targeting a Variety of Broadcasting Sites Data is collected under various environmental conditions, such as outdoor locations, indoor studios, and event venues, to understand risk trends in each situation. 2. Building an analytical foundation by accumulating acquired data Establish a platform that accumulates measured data and can be used for future analysis and improvement proposals. 3. Evaluation by comparison with national environmental data Compared with nationwide measurement data held by Minna Works, the
environmental characteristics and risk factors of broadcasting sites are quantitatively evaluated. 4. Monitoring Behavioral and System Changes Individuals are alerted and their preventive actions are recorded. Organizations are monitored for actions and changes that could lead to improvements in work plans and safety management systems. 5. Using data for continuous improvement The collected and accumulated data will be reflected in improvements to safety management manuals and operating policies, leading to long-term environmental improvements. The significance and prospects of UPDATER The Significance of UPDATER’s Initiatives UPDATER’s “Minna Works” is a well-being platform that returns recruitment costs to employees and helps create a workplace where people “remain strong” and “naturally gravitate toward employees.” Based on the philosophy that “people naturally gravitate toward good companies,” the platform aims to reduce the burden of recruitment and retention, creating a sustainable work style for both companies and employees.

Due to the effects of climate change, heatstroke has become a common occupational safety and health issue in all workplaces. Broadcasting sites often involve diverse and irregular work
environments, making health management of employees and performers more important than ever. At Minna Works, we use environmental data to visualize risks and achieve “science-based workplace environment improvements.” Not only can we prevent health hazards, but we can also “visualize” the ease of working, safety, and peace of mind of employees, thereby protecting a “workplace where people can continue to work with peace of mind.” Heatstroke prevention is a part of this, and we believe it is an important aspect of increasing the
attractiveness and sustainability of the workplace. Future Outlook The data and insights gained from this demonstration experiment will be shared with TBS Radio and reflected in improvements to the production site’s safety management manual and operating rules. In addition, we conducted multifaceted analysis, including by season, site
characteristics, and job type, to develop a more effective
countermeasure model. We are considering expanding this to the entire broadcasting industry, including other broadcasters and production companies, in the future. We aim to eliminate accidents and health damage caused by heatstroke and are working to make the way we work in the future safer and more sustainable. Comments from related parties TBS Radio, Inc. TBS Radio, Director of Corporate Planning Department and Masaaki Shioyama, Director of Media Technology Department The extreme heat poses new challenges for safety management on-site. Based on the knowledge gained from this demonstration experiment, we hope to continue creating an environment where staff and performers can work on production with peace of mind. Eiji Oishi, Representative Director, UPDATER Co., Ltd. In the scorching heat of summer, protecting the lives of on-site workers is an urgent issue. This “ON-AIR COOL” project was made possible thanks to TBS Radio’s serious commitment to sustainability. Using wearable devices and nationwide environmental data, we will promote heatstroke prevention measures that do not rely on the senses, making future workplaces safer and more attractive.
